Rutte III chocolade
(2017) Since the start of the 21st century, the price of sugar has gone down with 18%, while fruits (+41%) and vegetables (+50%) have only increased in price. For the same amount of money, you can buy both two apples or a big bar of chocolate.
If this continues, healthy products will gradually change into luxury items – only affordable for the rich. The new government of the Netherlands (Rutte III) planned on raising the taxes on food – from 6% to 9%. This includes chocolate and cookies, but also the pumpkins, lettuce, pears, etcetera. Instead, I plead to lower to taxes on the fruits and vegetables to encourage the population of the Netherlands to make (financially) healthier choices. And what better way than through the medium that we all love?
Have you finished your sweet? Put the packaging in an envelop and send it to: Mark Rutte, Het Torentje, Plein 29, 2511 CS Den Haag. Caution: this chocolate may contain traces of political statements. Full packaging can be viewed and downloaded here.
This project has been made to support the campaign of Foodwatch. Mark Rutte successfully received one of these chocolate bars and was said to ‘laugh out loud’ (also, he ate it).
